Balgores School Consultation

A new pedestrian and vehicular access into the site is proposed off Balgores Lane, south of the former Library. This will provide two-way access along with a separate pedestrian footpath.

The existing access to the former Library site will be closed, with a new access provided to the existing rear car park via the proposed school access road.

‘School Keep Clear’ markings will be installed along the frontage of the site on Balgores Lane, and two disabled parking bays will be added, resulting in the loss of the existing unrestricted parking bays in this area. 

The access road will lead to the staff parking and pupil drop-off areas located in the north of the site. The layout of the parking and drop-off zone ensures that all vehicles dropping off pupils will be able to enter the site to ensure the safety of pupils and to prevent congestion of the surrounding roads.

Most pupils will arrive and depart the school via travel assistance buses. All minibuses, taxis and parents will be able to enter the site and drop off pupils in allocated parking spaces or lay-bys. The 30-minute window for drop off and collection will be staggered over 2 x 15-minute periods to facilitate a smooth procedure for the staff/pupils, and to avoid congestion on Balgores Lane. Minibuses and other school vehicles will not be permitted to wait on Balgores Lane, as the provided car park provides space for pupil drop-off. Members of staff will ensure pupils make their way safely into the school.

The majority of staff will arrive at the school via public transport, walking or cycling. Limited car parking will be provided for the staff, with 42 staff car parking spaces proposed, including disabled bays, car share bays and electric vehicle charge bays. Members of staff will be expected to park before pupils arrive to spread out vehicle trips, reducing traffic on the surrounding streets. There are 10 drop-off spaces for parents and taxis during drop-off, which will be used for visiting staff during the day and 5 spaces for the school’s minibuses. Due to the parking restrictions on the surrounding roads, no parking will be possible off-site. Cycle parking will be provided for the staff and visitors.

All deliveries and servicing will take place within the site boundary.
